Evans waiting on Coyle update

Wanderers had hoped to have incoming manager Owen Coyle in place for Saturday's Premier League match at the Stadium of Light, which remains in doubt due to bad weather, but they are currently locked in negotiations with Burnley over compensation. Evans, who has overseen first-team affairs alongside head coach Steve Wigley since Gary Megson's sacking last week, hosted a pre-match press conference on Friday morning but could not confirm who would be in the dug-out Saturday. "The one thing that you try to expect in football is the unexpected," Evans said. "People have been saying to me, 'Chris, are you going to be here for the next game?'. "You don't know if you are going to be here for the next day. Football changes overnight and we know that. "Destinies of individuals have to be put on the backburner for now. I personally have a duty of care to all the rest of the staff that I try to keep them on an even keel, and positive and looking forward. "So whether Steve or myself or whoever else is here, I'm sure when the time comes the chairman will be the first to sit me down and let me know what his thoughts are." Evans said he had not been involved in the process of recruiting Coyle and had not been consulted yet about his future at the club. "If I had more information I would be glad to impart that," Evans said, "but I've been given no indication as to when any manager is going to be coming in. "I think that football is a very nomadic profession. The future of all football people and their destinies are in the hands of other people and what other people think of you is something that you can't control."
