Euro 2020: Hungary stuns France, Germany trounces Portugal, Spain and Poland tie

It was an eventful Saturday at the European Championship.

First Hungary pulled off the shocker of Euro 2020 so far, holding world champion France to a 1-1 tie in front of a capacity crowd of more than 60,000 in Budapest.

Then Germany finally got its offense clicking, routing Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal 4-2, though Germany also took advantage of two own-goals by Portugal.

In the day's third game, Spain settled for a 1-1 tie with Poland, despite owning the flow of play.

Here are the top moments.

Hungary 1, France 1

Hungary took the lead in first-half injury time when Attila Fiola's beautiful finish drove the packed house into a frenzy.

It also led to a most bizarre celebration.

Antoine Griezmann equalized from just inside the penalty area after Hungary failed to clear Kylian Mbappe’s cross from the right, pulling France into a tie.

France had other chances to take the lead, but Hungary goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi held firm.

In the end, you could see what the tie meant to the home crowd.

Germany 4, Portugal 2

Ronaldo put Portugal in the lead in the 15th minute against the run of play. It was his first goal against Germany and his third at Euro 2020. It extended his all-time tournament record to 12 goals.

But defenders Rúben Dias and Raphaël Guerreiro soon put Germany ahead by scoring into their own net in the first half.

Kai Havertz and Robin Gosens then scored two more for Germany early in the second half, becoming the first players within the squad to score at a European Championship.

Diogo Jota got one back for Portugal in the 67th minute.

Spain 1, Poland 1

Alvaro Morata gave Spain a lead with this strong finish early in the game.

Poland tied it in the second half on a header by star Robert Lewandowski.

Spain had a chance to take the lead on a PK but found the post instead.

In the end, Spain had to be disappointed with the result.
