Danny Koevermans scored twice Sunday to help leader PSV Eindhoven
to an emphatic 5-1 win over last-place RKC Waalkwijk in the Dutch
league.
The win maintained PSV's one point edge over FC Twente, which
beat NEC Nijmegen 2-1, and gives the leader a seven-point advantage
over third place Ajax, which thrashed Utrecht 4-0.
Unbeaten PSV has 65 points, one more than Twente and Ajax has
58.
Balazs Dzsudzsak converted a penalty after six minutes to
open the scoring for PSV and Ibrahim Afellay added a second with a
long-range shot. Nordin Amrabat set up Koevermans for PSV's third
in the 22nd minute before scoring the fourth five minutes from the
break. Charlison Benschop got a consolation for RKC in the 63rd
before Koevermans scored his second to complete the rout.
Luke de Jong and Bryan Ruiz scored in Twente's win over
Nijmegen, while Bjorn Vleminckx scored NEC's lone goal in the 67th.
Earlier Sunday, Luis Suarez scored two goals and set up
another as Ajax easily beat Utrecht.
Suarez deflected Jan Vertongen's shot into the net in the
43rd minute and added another after dribbling past four defenders
in the 68th. He also supplied the cross for substitute Dennis
Rommedahl to score in the 88th.
Gregory van der Wiel scored with a far post header in the
66th.
Utrecht's Jan Wuytens was sent off in the 33rd for a studs-up
challenge on Siem de Jong.
Also Sunday, Andre Bahia, Jon Dahl Tomasson and Ron Vlaar all
scored to lead Feyenoord past FC Groningen 3-2. Tim Matavz and
Andreas Granqvist scored late goals for Groningen.
Mounir El Hamdaoui scored three goals Saturday to give
defending champion AZ Alkmaar a 3-0 win over Vitesse Arnhem.
