EPL Power Rankings - Week 5 (Manchester City Top)

After this weekends activity Manchester City kept their 100% start to their season, but where do the other winners and losers from the match week four fall?

After another comprehensive victory against Bournemouth at the weekend, Manchester City are alone at the top of the table once again. Big wins for the Merseyside clubs see their stock rise. While losses by two title contenders sees their ranking drop faster than Arjen Robben in the box.

Manchester City

5-0-0

Last week: 4-0-0Last rank: 1

Manchester City are perfect under Pep Guardiola. That sentiment isn’t just about their record, but also the way they play. Back to back tests against the Super Swans will continue to test Pep’s squad depth and tactical approach. 2

Everton

4-1-0

Last week: 3-1-0Last rank: 3

The Toffees continue their rise up the Premier League table and the power rankings with a comprehensive in against Middlesbrough. A weekend match against the Cherries should see Everton keep pace near the top of the league.

Liverpool

3-1-1

Last week: 1-1-1Last rank: 7

Liverpool have beaten Arsenal, Chelsea, and the holding champions. A draw against Tottenham is nothing to be ashamed about, but that loss to Burnley could loom large when the season gets late on.4

Arsenal

3-1-1

Last week: 2-1-1Last rank: 6

Arsenal did well to score four past a Hull City squad that have looked tough to break down early in the season. The late goals made the scoreline look more dominant than the performance actually was. 5

Chelsea

3-1-1

Last week: 3-1-0Last rank: 2

Chelsea drop with their loss to Liverpool on Friday night under the lights. It took a world class goal by Jordan Henderson to beat the London club, who still look dangerous in the attack.Next: Power Rankings 6 - 106

Tottenham

3-2-0

Last week: 2-2-0Last rank: 4

Tottenham drop two sets despite winning mostly due to their abject performance. The loss of Harry Kane also means trouble possibly for the next two months for Pochettino’s men.7

Manchester United

3-0-2

Last week: 3-0-1Last rank: 5

What a week for the Red Devils. Three straight losses, including one at the weekend to Watford, drops United down couple spots. Six points off the pace five weeks into the season is not where United fans saw the Mourinho era beginning.

8

Watford

2-1-2

Last week: 1-1-2Last rank: 8

A very impressive showing from Watford sees them almost jump United, but not quite yet. Sitting at 7 points things might change when Watford play Burnley at the weekend however. 9

Crystal Palace

2-1-2

Last week: 1-1-2Last rank: 10

A classic Alan Pardew hammering of the bottom feeders at the moment. Nothing should be taken away from Palace’s dominant win, but Sunderland might present a better defensive challenge this weekend. 10

West Brom

2-1-2

Last week: 1-1-2Last rank: 15

Tony Pulis’ men climb big this week after a wonderful four to two win against West Ham. West Brom needed this win, almost as much as West Ham needs any win, in general.Next: Power Rankings 11-1511

Leicester City

2-1-2

Last week: 1-1-2Last rank: 16

Leicester’s title defense continues to look shaky at best. A three nil win over Burnley isn’t anything to write home about, but you can only beat who’s in front of you, and Leicester did that.12

Hull City

2-1-2

Last week: 2-1-1Last rank: 8

Hull have picked up one point in their last three games. Phenol has been officially offered the managers job, but Hull will continue to slide unless they can harness their earlier defensive tenacity.

13

Southhampton

1-2-2

Last week: 0-2-2Last rank: 18

Southhampton rise after getting their first win against Swansea at the weekend. This one win brings them up to fourteenth in the League table and a weekend match against struggling West Ham could see them climb higher. 14

Middlesbrough

1-2-2

Last week: 1-2-1Last rank: 11

Middlesbrough were trounced by Everton on Saturday evening. Only a controversial Negredo “header” meant a goal for Middlesbrough. Things don’t get any easier with Tottenham up next in the league. 15

Bournemouth

1-1-3

Last week: 1-1-2Last rank: 12

The Cherries were smashed by Manchester City over the weekend but received praise as Pep claimed they were the best side City had faced this season. Everton up next means another stern test for Eddie Howe’s men. Next: Power Rankings 16-2016

Swansea City

1-1-3

Last week: 1-1-2Last rank: 13

A draw against Chelsea and a loss against Southhampton capped off two very different outings for the Swans. Back to back games against Manchester City present a unique challenge for the Welsh club.17

Burnley

1-1-3

Last week: 1-1-2Last rank: 14

Burnley were hammered by the champions, but this weekend presents a chance at points up against a flying high Watford. Can the newly promoted side keep Watford quiet?

Manchester City: The rise and rise of Kelechi Iheanacho

18

Sunderland

0-1-4

Last week: 0-1-3Last rank: 19

Sunderland actually improve by not being the worst team out of the bottom three. A good defensive showing, barring the ten second in which they gave Harry Kane a free goal, could have seen Sunderland escape White Hart Lane with a point. 19

West Ham

1-0-4

Last week: 1-0-3Last rank: 17

The Hammers have found life difficult so far this season. That’s putting it nicely, other than revelation Michail Antonio, no one on West Ham is playing well. Even talisman Dmitri Payet seems tired after his excursions in the Euros.20

Stoke City

0-1-4

Last week: 0-1-3Last rank: 20

Get used to it Stoke fan, because there are some many problems with the way this team plays change will be long and hard. The absence of Butland and Shaqiri are devastating, but there’s no excuse for not playing hard.Next: Manchester City: Third Kit Officially Revealed
