Dutch Eredivisie Roundup, Oct. 3

PSV Eindhoven moved top of the Dutch league on Sunday after beating VVV-Venlo 3-0.

Jonathan Reis scored two goals and defender Wilfred Bouma got another for PSV, which has 18 points from eight rounds.

Ajax, seeking its record 30th championship title, is second with 17 following a 2-1 defeat against FC Utrecht. FC Twente is third with 16.

Ricky van Wolfswinkel's two first half penalties sealed the win for Utrecht and handed Ajax its first defeat of the season.

Van Wolfswinkel, the league's top scorer with nine goals, smashed his first penalty into the net in the 6th minute after Luis Suarez had handled in the area.

Van Wolfswinkel converted another penalty nine minutes later when he was fouled by Cameroon midfielder Eyong Enoh.

Siem de Jong scored in stoppage time for Ajax, which had previously last lost a league game in December 2009 - also against Utrecht.

FC Groningen also had its first defeat of the season, losing to defending champion Twente 4-2. Bryan Ruiz scored twice and created Theo Janssen's goal.

Marc Janko also scored for Twente, which maintained its eight-game unbeaten run, while Groningen's goals came from Andreas Granqvist's first half penalty and a strike from Tim Matavz.

Also Sunday, Kolbeinn Sigthorsson and Jonathas both scored in AZ Alkmaar's 2-1 win over Heracles Almelo. Willy Overtoom got Heracles' only goal.

Luigi Bruins scored for Feyenoord which was held 1-1 at lowly De Graafschap thanks to a goal from Hugo Bargas. SC Heerenveen and ADO The Hague drew 0-0.

On Saturday, it was: NAC Breda 2, NEC Nijmegen 0 and Excelsior Rotterdam 1, Roda JC 2.

Vitesse Arnhem drew with Willem II 0-0 on Friday.
