Dries Mertens just took the goal celebration game to a whole new level
Are you hungry for an unusual goal celebration? You're in luck!
Unlike some other sports around the league, soccer fully embraces the art of the celebration. Yes, there are certain restrictions, but players are allowed to get creative after they score for the most part.
We've seen baby-rocking, flag-kicking, boat-rowing, fish-reeling ... you name it. If there's an action that's easy to pantomime, it's probably been done. Or so we thought.
Napoli's Dries Mertens reached a new plane of celebratory existence on Saturday.

This celebration had better make its way into the FIFA video game series, or there will be riots. Who even thinks to do that? It's pure magic in its equal parts inventiveness and astonishment. Mertens opted to forego the more traditional knee-slide or finger point and went full canine.
I guess it's a good thing the flag is already yellow.
With two goals in the match against Roma, Mertens boosted his Serie A total to 18 for the season. Given his form, there's a good chance we'll see some more originality from the Belgian.
This will be tough to top, though.
