Dos Santos wants to stay with Santander
Mexico forward Giovani Dos Santos says he may well be playing the best football of his career and hopes to stay with Spanish club Santander, which has him on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.
Dos Santos has scored five goals in 16 matches since joining Santander on loan in December. He started in 10 of those matches and said Wednesday, during training for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, that he has found a home in northern Spain.
Dos Santos grew up in the Barcelona youth system, but has had trouble finding a team that fits him after time with several clubs including Tottenham, Ispwich Town, and Turkey's Galatasary.
''I'm very happy because I'm going through a good patch,'' Dos Santos said. ''It might be the best of my career. I feel very comfortable at Racing. I'm getting lots of playing time and I've arrived here motivated for the Gold Cup.''
Dos Santos was loaned to Santander with an option to buy for $11 million.
''I'd love to stay in Spain and with Racing,'' he added. ''Spanish football is where I grew up and, although I liked going to Tottenham, things did not work out. But now I am very comfortable.''
