Defender Dani Carvajal extends contract with Real Madrid
Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has signed a one-year contract extension with the Spanish giants, the club announced on Wednesday.
The new deal will see the Spain international tied down to the Bernabeu outfit until June 30, 2020.
A statement from Real Madrid read: "Real Madrid CF have announced the contract extension of Dani Carvajal which will keep him at the club until the 30th of June 2020, for the next five seasons."
A youth product of Real, Carvajal was sold to Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2012 but returned to the Bernabeu 12 months later after Los Blancos exercised a buy-back option on the player.
Carvajal, 23, made 30 La Liga appearances for Real this past season and started in five Champions League games to help his team reach the semi-final stages.
Real were keen to improve Carvajal's contract this summer to end speculation regarding the player's possible departure.
Carvajal's future had been in doubt after Real signed Brazilian fullback Danilo from Porto after the end of the season.
Real travel to Australia on Sunday to begin their summer tour under new coach Rafa Benitez.
