Davide Ballardini named Cagliari coach
Cagliari have appointed Davide Ballardini as their new coach after sacking Massimo Ficcadenti Tuesday night.
The 47-year-old Ballardini returns to guide the Sardinian outfit for the third time in his career.
A statement from Cagliari read: "Davide Ballardini is Cagliari's new coach.
"The new Rossoblu coach returns after guiding the Islanders in the 2005-06 and 2007-08 campaigns.
"Ballardini will guide his first training session this afternoon and will be unveiled to the media shortly after.''
Ballardini will be Cagliari's third coach this season.
Ficcadenti only replaced former Italy boss Roberto Donadoni in the summer and had made a solid start winning three of his opening five league games in charge.
However, Sunday's 1-0 defeat at Atalanta extended Cagliari's winless run to five games and dropped the Sardinians to 10th place.
Ballardini was out of a job since parting company with Genoa this summer.
His first game in charge will be at Inter Milan on November 19.
