Cristiano Ronaldo scores a beauty as Portugal rout Faroe Islands

With a batch of World Cup qualifiers happening this week, the one between Portugal and the Faroe Islands was not on anyone's calendar as a potential thriller. As expected on Monday, Portugal took it to Faroe Islands for a crushing 6-0 scoreline.

But these blowout games do give us a big reason to watch, and that reason is goals like this beauty from Cristiano Ronaldo:

Boom shakalaka. The way Ronaldo taps the ball back to Joao Mario for the give-and-go is irresistible, but that strike was a monster. Goalkeeper Gunnar Nielsen did get a hand to it and gave it his all, but Ronaldo's top-of-the-box left-footed rocket was just too much. In a nutshell, that sums up how the game went.

This Joao Moutinho goal deserves a shout too, though. The midfielder lofts a ball from some 25 yards out and if you look real closely, you can see Nielsen's life flash before his eyes:

Tough day in the office for Nielsen, who had the daunting task of trying to keep the Faroe Islands in the game. But we appreciate the great goals we got to see.

The Landsliðið, as they are known, have never qualified for a World Cup. So far, 2018 doesn't look to be their year, although there's still time to make up some ground in Group B.
