Cristiano Ronaldo leads Real Madrid to first La Liga title in 5 years, capping off dominant season

Real Madrid are the champions of Spain once again.

After a five-year wait to reclaim the La Liga title, Los Blancos put the final touches on a dominant season in Spain, cruising past Malaga on Sunday, 2-0, and finishing three points clear of second-place Barcelona.

It took less than two minutes for Cristiano Ronaldo to put Real Madrid ahead at Estadio La Rosaleda as he ran onto a splendid Isco pass, rounded goalkeeper Carlos Kameni and slotted it home:

Karim Benzema would later add one more in the second half on a scramble in the box for the final 2-0 score line.

With the result, Real Madrid denied Barcelona a third straight La Liga title, no matter how Barca fared vs. SD Eibar. Barcelona did win in a dramatic comeback over Eibar, but Real Madrid's own win ensured they finished three points clear of their rivals on the La Liga table.

Real Madrid have been La Liga's most complete team this season and, even in the face of a constant rotation of injuries to starters, Los Blancos have been one of the best teams in the world. The 2016/17 campaign marked the first time Real Madrid scored in every single match, 50 consecutive games.

The title was Real Madrid's to lose coming into Sunday -- they only needed a draw to clinch the trophy -- and they did what they've mostly done all season: They rose the occasion and dominated. With the La Liga trophy in the bag, they can now look ahead to clinching a repeat UEFA Champions League trophy at the final next month vs. Juventus.
