Could John Obi Mikel be Joining Lampard in the MLS?

Current Chelsea player John Obi Mikel told media that he would be open to joining Frank Lampard in the MLS one day.

In an interview with Goal.com, current Chelsea FC player John Obi Mikel said that if he isn’t offered a new deal come January, he would be open to a move away from Stanford Bridge. For the past 10 years, Mikel has called London home but would be open to a move to Major League Soccer for a reunion with former teammate Frank Lampard, currently playing at NYCFC.

I am happy that [Lampard] is back to his best, doing what he loves to do and, one day, who knows, I may go over there and play against him, or play with him.

Mikel is currently out of favor with new manager Antonio Conte as he has yet to feature in any of Chelsea’s league and cup play. But even though it seems like he would like a move to the MLS, Mikel’s priority is to stay and play at Chelsea.

I have been at Chelsea for 11 years now, the first day I came I was fighting for my place and I am still fighting for my position. It is remarkable at the end of the day how you fight and you still end up coming out victorious and I will keep fighting for my position and hopefully I will get back into the team.

Mikel is not a player you would expect to score goals for your team, only racking in 1 goal in his 247 appearances for the Blues. On the other hand, though, the Nigerian midfielder is an extremely talented holding mid that can bolster any MLS team’s defense.
