Costa Rica vs. Zambia highlights: Zambia goes out strong in 3-1 win

The 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup continued Monday (on FS1 and the FOX Sports app), as Costa Rica fell to Zambia at Waikato Stadium in Hamilton, New Zealand.

Both teams had already been eliminated from contention prior to the match, but Zambia and Costa Rica put on a show nonetheless. Zambia pulled ahead at the very start with the country's first-ever World Cup goal, and extended its lead before the half. The Costa Rican squad came back in the second half with a goal to try and catch up, but they were unable to close the gap, which Zambia extended with a third goal in stoppage time.

As the stoppage-time clock counted down, Zambia put a seal on the victory by scoring a third goal on a beautiful play knocked in by Racheal Kundananji.

Las Ticas refused to roll over after falling behind in the first half, and they brought the energy in the second, creating attacking opportunities again and again.

Zambian captain Barbra Banda drew the foul in the box to earn a penalty kick, which she drilled into the net to double Zambia's advantage. This goal marks the 1,000th goal in Women's World Cup history.

Zambia kept its foot on the gas pedal, attacking the final third repeatedly, but the Costa Rican back line held firm.
