Copenhagen fires Jacobs, Solbakken returns
FC Copenhagen has fired coach Ariel Jacobs after a poor showing in the domestic league, re-signing former manager Stale Solbakken.
Club director Anders Horsholt says Jacobs was fired Wednesday after the Danish champions had disappointed so far this season. Copenhagen has lost its last five matches in the 12-club Super League and ranks second last with two points.
Under Solbakken, the former Norway midfielder who managed Copenhagen from 2006-2011, the team won the league five times and reached the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League. After Copenhagen, the 45-year-old Solbakken joined Cologne and later Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Before joining Copenhagen, Jacobs coached Belgian powerhouse Anderlecht from 2007, guiding them to two league titles and one Belgian Cup.
