Copa América 2024 group scenarios, tiebreakers: How each team advances to quarterfinals

The group stage of Copa América 2024 is all but complete, with only one group left to be determined. The United States men's national team has been eliminated in Group C, while Brazil and Colombia will play each other in Group D to determine one of the final two spots remaining. Costa Rica will also look to qualify in its final match against Costa Rica. 

Here's a full breakdown of how the remaining teams can still advance to the quarterfinals:

Group A

  • Argentina wins the group and advances to the quarterfinals.
  • Canada is the runner-up and advances to the quarterfinals.
  • Peru is eliminated and will not advance.
  • Chile is eliminated and will not advance.

Group B

  • Venezuela wins the group and advances to the quarterfinals.
  • Ecuador is the runner-up and advances to the quarterfinals.
  • Mexico is eliminated and will not advance.
  • Jamaica is eliminated and will not advance.

Group C

  • Uruguay wins the group and advances to the quarterfinals.
  • Panama is the runner-up and advances to the quarterfinals.
  • USA is eliminated and will not advance.
  • Bolivia is eliminated and will not advance.

Group D

  • Colombia has advanced, will win the group with a win or draw.
  • Brazil can advance with a win or draw against Colombia; will win the group with a win.
  • Brazil can also advance with a Costa Rica draw or loss.
  • Brazil can also advance with a loss to Colombia and a Costa Rica win, so long as Costa Rica does not make up at least six in goal difference.
  • Costa Rica advances with a win and a Brazil loss, and must also make up a deficit of at least six in goal difference.
  • Paraguay has been eliminated.

  1. Goal difference in all group matches
  2. Most goals scored in all group matches
  3. Head-to-Head points between the tied teams
  4. Head-to-Head goal difference between the tied teams
  5. Most goals scored between the tied teams
  6. Fewest red cards
  7. Fewest yellow cards
  8. Drawing of lots
