Convicted rapist Ched Evans set to resume soccer career

A British footballer who was recently released from jail after a rape conviction could be about to join a club in England's third tier.

The head of English football's players union says the club is due to hold a news conference on Monday in relation to the signing of Ched Evans, who served half of a five-year sentence before his release in October.

Gordon Taylor, chief executive of the Professional Footballers' Association, did not disclose the name of the club in question.

Evans, who has played 13 games for Wales, had an offer to train with former club Sheffield United retracted in November after a backlash from the club's supporters, sponsors and patrons.

Evans maintains his innocence and an inquiry into his conviction by a review commission is under way.
