CONMEBOL rejects Copa Libertadores outside South America
ASUNCION, Paraguay (AP) — CONMEBOL has rejected any chance of another Copa Libertadores final being played out of South America, as happened last year.
CONMEBOL President Alejandro Dominguez said at a news conference on Monday there were neither plans nor offers to send the South American club championship another continent any time soon.
Last year, River Plate beat archrival Boca Juniors 3-1 in the second leg of the final in Madrid and won its fourth Copa Libertadores title.
CONMEBOL removed the second leg from Buenos Aires after River fans attacked the Boca bus, injuring several players.
This year, the South American club crown will be decided in a single match in Santiago, Chile.
