Christian Atsu Deserves a Newcastle United Start

Christian Atsu made an appearance at Newcastle United’s match against Aston Villa in which they drew 1-1. But he never came off the bench and was an unused substitute.

Of course, everything could have been different if Atsu went in the match. You could say that about anything. Everything that happened has an alternate reality to what actually happened. It’s over and done with, and those saying that not putting Atsu in the match may have cost Newcastle United the game I can only say this.

Shush.

Yes, I just shushed you. But that doesn’t mean I don’t agree with you. I feel that complaining about all the possibilities that could have changed the result after the result is already set in stone is a waste of valuable time to be evaluating the problem and making sure it doesn’t happen again.

One way we can figure out Atsu’s potential effect on Newcastle’s results is to let him start in Newcastle United’s next match against Norwich on the 28th.

Surprisingly enough, Norwich tops the Football League Championship table in first place with four points more than now fifth place Newcastle United. So I wouldn’t take the match for granted like some may have taken Wolverhampton.

Newcastle United is set for a rotation against Norwich, so we are likely to see a different set up than what we witnessed against Aston Villa. Ciaran Clark may not be starting, and we are likely to see a slightly different defense.

We are also likely to see a different midfield. Perhaps one with Christian Atsu gracing the starting XI. But whether or not he comes on as a substitute or as a starter, I think it’s important to see what Atsu can bring Newcastle’s offense.

The draw against Aston Villa was deplorable. It should have been a win, and last minute mistakes cost us the game. Christian Atsu has shown an attitude to want to play and win, and I think his work in practice has earned him that opportunity.
