Chile appoint Juan Antonio Pizzi as manager

SANTIAGO

Chile - Juan Antonio Pizzi is Chile's new coach, contracted through the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Jorge Sampaoli resigned this month, just six months after Chile won the Copa America for the first time. Pizzi comes from Mexico club Leon, and has also coached Spanish club Valencia and other clubs in Argentina.

Arturo Salah, the head of the Chilean federation, says in a statement that Pizzi ''gives us a lot of confidence from his already established career.'' Pizzi is Chile's fourth consecutive Argentina-born coach following Marcelo Bielsa, Claudio Borghi, and Sampaoli.

Chile has crucial World Cup qualifiers in March against Argentina and Venezuela.
