Chelsea come from behind to beat Leicester in dramatic EFL cup tie

Chelsea completed a remarkable turnaround as they came back from two goals down to beat 10-man Leicester City 4-2 at the King Power Stadium to reach the fourth round of the EFL Cup.

Cesc Fabregas scored twice in extra time as Chelsea completed a remarkable comeback to beat Leicester City in extra time in the third round of the English League cup. Leicester had earlier taken the lead thanks to Japanese striker Shinji Okazaki’s first half brace.

Gary Cahill pulled one back for the Londoners on the cusp of half time. Cesar Azpilicueta then leveled the scores with a stunning volley from 25 yards in the second half.

Leicester City started brightly, taking advantage of Chelsea’s poor defending and racing to a two goal lead. However Chelsea’s attacking prowess got them back in the game. It was an entertaining cup tie, with chances for both sides, especially in the second half. Leicester defender Marcin Wasilewski was sent off towards the end of normal time for elbowing Diego Costa in the neck.

That gave Chelsea the impetus they needed. And Cesc Fabregas scored twice in two minutes to seal the victory for the away side. The Spaniard has started the season on the bench for Chelsea. However his man of the match display against the reigning Premier League champions will give manager Antonio Conte a welcome selection headache.

Arsenal, Liverpool win, but Everton knocked out.

Elsewhere in the EFL Cup, there were comfortable wins for Arsenal and Liverpool. Arsenal cruised past Championship side Nottingham Forest, beating them 4-0. While last year’s finalists, Liverpool, thrashed Derby County 3-0, to secure their passage to the next round.

Everton, however, were dumped out by Championship side Norwich, losing 2-0. Premier League side Bournemouth were also knocked out, losing to Championship side Preston North End.
