CAS sets March date for Debrecen match-fixing case

Sport's highest court will hear appeals next month in the first corruption case involving a Champions League group-stage match.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport says it has set a March 10 date to hear Debrecen goalkeeper Vukasin Poleksic and defender Norbert Meszaros challenge bans for failing to report that fixers approached them before a home match against Fiorentina.

The Hungarian champion conceded four first-half goals and lost 4-3, though Champions League organizer UEFA accepted the players did not actively manipulate the October 2009 match.

UEFA rules require players and officials to report attempted corruption.

Montenegro international Poleksic was banned for two years and Meszaros got an 18-month suspension.
