Carlos Alberto, Brazil's 1970 World Cup-winning captain, dies at 72
RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Carlos Alberto Torres, a teammate of Pele and the captain of Brazil's World Cup-winning team in 1970, has died. He was 72.
TV Globo, which employed Carlos Alberto as a soccer commentator for Sportv, and the Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed the death Tuesday.
Carlos Alberto was one of the best defenders of his generation and scored one of the most famous goals of the 1970 World Cup, blasting in a pass from Pele in the 4-1 win against Italy in the final.
