Carli Lloyd out 3 to 6 weeks with sprained knee

An MRI scan has confirmed that Houston Dash and United States Women's National team star Carli Lloyd suffered an MLC sprain during Saturday's NWSL clash.

Lloyd picked up the injury in the 5th minute of Houston's match with Orlando Pride. She continued playing until the 14th minute, and was later seen on the sideline icing her knee.

The midfielder said in a statement that she's frustrated but is starting the recovery process right away.

"I would like to thank everyone for their well wishes. Obviously, I'm very disappointed with the injury. I was feeling great and starting to get comfortable with my Dash teammates," Lloyd said. "The timing is not great but I'm confident that I will come back in peak condition. Rehab starts tomorrow and you'll see me on the field soon."

The expected recovery time for a Grade 1 MCL sprain is three to six weeks, which should be enough time for the Women's World Cup Golden Ball winner to recover before the USWNT begin their Olympic Gold medal campaign in August.
