Bundesliga requests to participate in video replay pilot program
The German Football League (DFL) and German Football Association (DFB) have announced that they will be submitting an application to FIFA to participate in a pilot program testing out the use of video replay.
The Bundesliga's proposal seeks to incorporate the technology in a two-year long pilot program that would be used across all Bundesliga games.
The in-game video replay would be used to help referees avoid obvious incorrect decisions, including whether a penalty should be awarded, a player should be sent off, or to consider violent conduct that might have been missed.
The pilot program still has to be approved by the International Football Association Board (IFAB), which plans to vote on the issue in March.
The Bundesliga is not the only league seeking to explore the use of video replay: America's Major League Soccer has also expressed an interest in trialling the new technology.
