Bradley Wright-Phillips has won the MLS Golden Boot

Bradley Wright-Phillips is the winner of the 2016 MLS Golden Boot. The New York Red Bulls striker finished the MLS season with 24 goals, one ahead of New York City's David Villa.

BWP continued to pull away from Villa in the two-man race on Sunday's MLS Decision Day, notching the first goal in a 2-0 win over the Philadelphia Union.

Wright-Phillips chipped the goalkeeper and it essentially turned into a bit of a pass to himself. That feels about right. Though BWP's connection with midfielder Sacha Kljestan has been undeniable, BWP has been a one-man goal-scoring force for the Red Bulls.

He's been excellent at getting into dangerous spaces and creating chances, but his finishing is what has separated him from Villa and others. He's managed to score on about 24 percent of his shots, which is a conversion rate any striker would love to have. Villa, who finished second in the Golden Boot race, had a whopping 160+ shots and five of his goals came from penalty kicks.

BWP finished the year with seven game-winning goals, the most in MLS. None of his 24 goals came from penalty kicks.

This is his second Golden Boot after winning the award in 2014, when he scored 27 goals. He is the greatest goal-scorer in Red Bulls franchise history, with his latest trophy capping off a stunning three-year run for the Red Bulls, where he started as an unknown trialist.
