Boyce wants first-team return

The 30-year-old made 23 Premier League starts for Wigan last term but endured a frustrating second-half to the campaign when first-team opportunities were hard to come by. Boyce only made one appearance after March but in his absence the Latics managed to avoid relegation to the Championship. Now the defender is determined to make an impact at the DW Stadium and prove to manager Roberto Martinez that he is worthy of a starting berth. He told the club's official website: "Half of last season was frustrating for me, but you put your trust in the manager that he does the best for the team. "Everybody wants to play and whether I'm playing right-back, centre-back or left-back I'll always give 100 per cent to the team and hopefully be good enough to make the line-up." On Wigan's preparations for the upcoming campaign, he added: "The season's coming and we want to be ready so we're working hard and with a few faces still to come in the squad continues to get stronger and stronger."
