Beckham waiting for Galaxy to approve loan move

David Beckham is still waiting for the Los Angeles Galaxy to approve a loan move to a European club, with Tottenham among the clubs keen to sign the former England captain.

Having earlier ruled out spending a third consecutive Major League Soccer offseason at another club, Beckham announced two weeks ago that he needed to continue playing during the winter to stay in contention for an England recall.

But the Galaxy responded by insisting that they expect Beckham - and all their players - back at the end of January ahead of the March 15 season opener.

The team's reluctance stems from Beckham missing the first six months of the 2010 season after injuring an Achilles' tendon last March while playing for AC Milan.

Tottenham, though, is pursuing Beckham's signature even if he would only be available for the Premier League club for two months.

''At the moment we are waiting on the decision of LA Galaxy with regards to a loan move,'' Beckham's management company said in a statement. ''The loan would be a short one until the start of the MLS season. David would then return and play a full season with the Galaxy.

''Tottenham are one of many clubs who are interested but as yet we have not got into any detailed conversations as we are waiting on LA Galaxy's decision.''

The Galaxy declined to comment on Monday.

While Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has already made clear his interest, he said over the weekend that ''whether they will let him move I wouldn't be sure - it's probably 50-50.''

Redknapp said Beckham singled out Spurs as the club he wanted to join after the former Manchester United player talked with the manager's son, Jamie, who is also a former England midfielder.

But Jamie Redknapp said ''there are too many obstacles'' to a deal being done.

Beckham, who is entering the final season of his five-year $32.5 million Galaxy contract, still hopes to return to Fabio Capello's England side.

He made the last of his 115 international appearances against Belarus in October 2009 and missed last year's World Cup because of the Achilles injury.

Beckham previously said the only Premier League team he would consider playing for was Manchester United, which he left in 2003 to join Real Madrid. Beckham's late grandfather Joseph West supported Tottenham, which hosts United in the league on Jan. 16.
