Bayern to extend contract with Philipp Lahm

Bayern Munich has agreed to a contract extension with Germany defender Philipp Lahm that will keep him at the club until June 2016.

Lahm's old contract would have run out in 2012. The new deal will be signed shortly.

Lahm was Germany's captain at the World Cup in South Africa in the absence of the injured Michael Ballack.

Bayern is also seeking to extend the contract of midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, but those talks have been delayed. His contract also expires in 2012.
