Barcelona ends contract with defender Henrique

Barcelona ended its contract with Henrique Adriano on Saturday, one year before the agreement with the Brazilian defender official expires.

The Catalan club paid ?8 million (US$12.7 million) to Palmeiras in 2008 for Henrique. Although the defender signed for five years, he did not fit into coach Pep Guardiola's plans for the club.

In the past years, Henrique spent time on loan at Bayer Leverkusen and Racing Santander before returning to Palmeiras for a stint last season.
