Atletico defender Miranda hopes to return Inter Milan to greatness

Atletico Madrid defender Miranda is hopeful that Inter Milan will return to greatness again in the near future as he edges ever closer to San Siro.

The Brazil international is set to move to Milan after the Nerazzurri and Atletico agreed on a 12 million euro (£8.6m) transfer fee, potentially rising to 15m euro (£10.7m), for his services.

Miranda is thus unsurprisingly confident that the 2010 treble winners can become a force with which to be reckoned once again.

"I can say that Inter are a great team in international football and hopefully again they will be one of the best teams in Europe," he told Lancenet.

However, the 30-year-old was quick to stress that his sole focus at the moment is on leading Brazil to Copa America glory.

"My head is with the Brazilian team," he added. "I'm fully focused on playing and winning the Copa America in Chile."

Miranda started his professional career with Coritiba and also turned out for Sochaux and Sao Paulo before joining Atleti in 2011.

He has since won La Liga, Copa del Rey, Supercopa de Espana, Europa League and Uefa Supercup with the Primera Division side.
