Atlanta United FC unveils its primary MLS jersey
There’s nothing unique or memorable about Atlanta United FC’s name, but the MLS expansion team’s first home uniform certainly will stand out. Unveiled Tuesday evening, Atlanta’s 2017 primary jersey will be only the second in MLS featuring traditional stripes. The red-and-black shirt will be worn with black shorts and black socks. Gold numbers and trim complete the look.
The Montreal Impact adopted blue and black stripes this year after spending its first four MLS seasons in monochromatic royal blue. The New York Red Bulls wore black and red stripes during the MetroStars days, the Colorado Rapids donned black and blue after one of its several makeovers and the LA Galaxy once tried black and teal. But more recently, MLS clubs and Adidas have preferred to keep it simple.

“Our goal was to have a kit that was differentiated from the league and a unique look that Atlanta can own,” United vice president of business operations Ann Rodriguez said.
The five stripes, which also are used in the club logo, symbolize unity, excellence, community, determination and innovation, according to United.
American Family Insurance signed a kit sponsorship deal with United in June.
Atlanta will take the field in March at Georgia Tech’s Bobby Dodd Stadium before moving into Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the summer.
It will release its secondary uniform in early 2017.
