Altidore, Findley to start for USA
Robbie Findley was paired at forward with Jozy Altidore in the
starting lineup for the United States' exhibition game at the
third-ranked Netherlands on Wednesday night, the Americans' last
before coach Bob Bradley picks his World Cup roster.
Tim Howard was slated to start in goal for the No. 18
Americans, with captain Carlos Bocanegra and Jay DeMerit in central
defense, Jonathan Spector at right back and Jonathan Bornstein at
left back.
Michael Bradley and Jose Torres were in central midfield,
with Stuart Holden on the right and Landon Donovan on the left.
DaMarcus Beasley, Eddie Johnson, Heath Pearce, Maurice Edu,
Alejandro Bedoya, Clarence Goodson and backup goalkeeper Brad Guzan
were the subs. Goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann and defender Frank Simek
weren't dressed.
DeMerit was making his first appearance since a World Cup
qualifier at Mexico on Aug. 12. Bornstein started his ninth
straight game while Findley made his third straight start after
having just one international appearance before this year.
The Dutch started Maarten Stekelenburg in goal; Gregory van
der Wiel, Joris Mathijsen, John Heitinga and Giovanni van
Bronckhorst on defense; Mark van Bommel, Arjen Robben, Nigel de
Jong and Wesley Sneijder in midfielder; and Dirk Kuyt and Eljero
Elia at forward.
The referee was Cuneyt Cakir of Turkey.
