Alex Morgan has successful knee surgery, set to return in 3-4 weeks

U.S. women's national team and Portland Thorns forward Alex Morgan underwent successful surgery on her right knee, the Thorns announced Friday. 

The surgery was to remove a small fold within the lining of the knee joint that was causing Morgan irritation. 

Morgan is set to begin rehabilitation immediately and is expected to return to Thorns' action within three to four weeks. Her rehablitation will begin immediately with the Portland Timbers and Thorns medical staff. 

Morgan is coming off the Americans' 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup title, in which she appeared in all seven games and played 434 minutes.
