Alberto Gilardino set for transfer to Genoa

Italy forward Alberto Gilardino is undergoing medical exams with Genoa ahead of a likely transfer from Fiorentina.

Genoa will reportedly pay Fiorentina an ?8 million ($10.3 million) transfer fee and sign the striker to a four-year contract worth ?1.6 million ($2 million) per season.

The 29-year-old Gilardino struggled during the first half of this season with Fiorentina, scoring just two goals and missing a month with a knee injury.

Over the past three seasons with Fiorentina, Gilardino scored 46 goals in Serie A.

Gilardino previously played for Parma and AC Milan and was a member of the Italy squad that won the 2006 World Cup. He also played in last year's World Cup for Italy, but has recently fallen out of favor with Azzurri coach Cesare Prandelli.
