Adebayor helps Togo to victory

Togo advanced to the second round of African qualifying for the World Cup through Serge Gakpe's second-minute goal in a 1-0 win over Guinea-Bissau that featured Emmanuel Adebayor's return to international football.

Gakpe's early strike in the Lome home leg on Tuesday gave Togo a 2-1 aggregate victory over Guinea-Bissau to be one of the 40 teams in the next group stage.

African Cup of Nations co-host Equatorial Guinea went through 3-2 on aggregate over Madagascar, Congo dominated Swaziland 8-2 and Kenya beat Seychelles 4-0 at home for a 7-0 aggregate score.

Lesotho scored in its 2-1 loss in Burundi to reach the second round on away goals.

Five African teams will qualify from a two-year process for Brazil 2014.
