Yankees media training: Less like Cam Newton, more like Russell Wilson

Athletes in New York have to be careful at all times what they say and do. They're perpetually one misstep or missed note from getting lit up on the front and back covers of several sports pages like a Christmas tree.

"I've been on record to say I'm a sore loser," Newton said a day later, before quoting Vince Lombardi. "Who likes to lose? You show me a good loser and I'm going to show you a loser."

One year earlier, after Russell Wilson threw a stunning goal-line interception to the Patriots' Malcolm Butler that sealed Super Bowl XLIX for New England, Wilson expressed disappointment over the loss, took blame and answered questions fully.

Newton will not be defined by a few bad minutes after an emotionally draining loss. However by contrast with Wilson he did create a strong teaching point for the Yankees and other athletes who may enter the spotlight.
