World champion Feuz fastest in training for Lauberhorn race

WENGEN, Switzerland (AP) — Two-time winner Beat Feuz dominated the first training session Wednesday for Switzerland's classic World Cup downhill.

Feuz, the world champion and 2018 Olympic bronze medalist, was 1.16 seconds faster than Swiss teammate Mauro Caviezel down the 4.27-kilometer (2-2/3 mile) track, the longest on the circuit.

Feuz's 2012 and '18 wins are among five Swiss victories in the past decade for the Alpine nation's signature race, which is scheduled for Saturday.

Matthias Mayer of Austria, the 2014 Olympic champion, was third-fastest, 1.27 behind Feuz. Bryce Bennett of the United States was fourth, and Olympic champion Aksel Lund Svindal was sixth, 1.62 behind.

Thursday's second training session will be run earlier and on a shorter course to avoid forecast poor weather in the afternoon.
