With new backup in place, Blues deal Nilsson for fifth-rounder

After giving free agent Carter Hutton a two-year contract to become Jake Allen's new backup on Friday, the St. Louis Blues made a move on Saturday to shed some of their excess depth in net.

Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has acquired a 2017 fifth-round draft pick from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for goaltender Anders Nilsson.

The 26-year-old Nilsson split last season between the Blues and the Edmonton Oilers, compiling an overall record of 10-13-2, along with a 3.12 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage. For his career, the 6-foot-5, 229-pound goaltender has appeared in 52 regular season games, posting a 19-22-4 record, a 3.09 goals-against average, a .900 save percentage and one shutout.
