Wild sign forward Ryan Carter to one-year deal

The Minnesota Wild continue to make moves, re-signing forward Ryan Carter to a one-year contract.

General manager Chuck Fletcher announced the deal Wednesday, following a few other signings earlier in the day, as NHL free agency heats up.

Carter, a 31-year-old native of White Bear Lake, Minn., finished last season with 13 points, including three goals. He also had a plus-3 rating in 53 games. The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder's 55 penalty minutes ranked second on the Wild, and he was fifth on the team in hits (77). His 10 assists and 30 blocked shots were both career-high marks, and his point total was the second-most of his career.

Over 413 career games in parts of eight NHL seasons with five different teams, Carter has totaled 81 points and 396 penalty minutes. He played two seasons at Minnesota State University - Mankato from 2004 to 2006.
