Wild officially announce signing of Dubnyk to six-year deal
A week after agreeing to a contract with Devan Dubnyk, the Minnesota Wild officially signed the standout goalie Saturday.
Dubnyk received a six-year contract worth a reported $26 million.
''We've analyzed it to death,'' Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher said last week at the NHL Draft. ''We've looked at it every which way and we're very comfortable with this signing.''
Dubnyk was acquired by a floundering Minnesota team from Arizona in mid-January for a third-round draft pick and he proceeded to go 27-9-2 with a .936 save percentage and 1.78 goals-against average in leading Minnesota to the postseason. Dubnyk started 39 of Minnesota's final 40 games as the Wild a 6 seed and beat St. Louis in the opening round of the postseason before falling to eventual Stanley Cup champion Chicago.
Minnesota has used at least four goaltenders in each of the last three seasons --€“ and five in 2013-14 – but with this contract appear to have stabilized the position.
''We've been chasing our goaltending a little bit the last couple years, chasing stability in the goaltending position,'' Fletcher said. ''And we're hopeful that Devan can be a steadying influence back there.''
