Wide receiver A.J. Green is active for Bengals
CINCINNATI -- Wide receiver A.J. Green is active for the Bengals and is expected to start Sunday against Jacksonville. Green had missed the last three games with a turf toe injury but practiced all three days this week, albeit in limited participation.
Green has 17 catches this season for 314 yards and two touchdowns. He caught five passes for 81 yards and a touchdown in his last game, Oct. 5 at New England.
The Bengals declared linebacker Vontaze Burfict and running back Giovani Bernard out of the game earlier in the week. Burfict had arthroscopic knee surgery on Wednesday while Bernard, who leads the team with 446 yards rushing, is recovering from rib and clavicle injuries. The Bengals have a quick turn-around before their next game Thursday night against Cleveland. Head coach Marvin Lewis has termed Burfict as "unlikely" to be available to play against the Browns and has been non-committal regarding Bernard's length of absence.
Rookie Jeremy Hill is expected to get his first start in place of Bernard, while Vinny Rey is expected to start at WILL linebacker for Burfict. Middle linebacker Rey Maualuga (hamstring) is inactive for the third straight game and is expected to be replaced by Nico Johnson.
The other inactives for the Bengals are: wide receiver Dane Sanzenbacher, cornerback Darqueze Dennard (hamstring), right guard Kevin Zeitler (calf) and defensive end Will Clarke. Mike Pollak is expected to start in place of Zeitler.
