Why an Auburn softball player confronted Florida's coach in postgame handshake line

Auburn defeated Florida in a tight 1-0 game on Monday but the real dramatics came after the final out. In the postgame handshake line, one of Auburn's players got into a brief but tense confrontation with Florida's head coach.

Tigers shortstop Haley Fagan had no intention of high-fiving Gators coach Tim Walton following the game, so she didn't even bother putting her hand up as she passed him in the line. Walton didn't seem to appreciate this and he responded by giving Fagan a little shove to the shoulder.

That did not go over well either.

Fagan gave a return shove and the two briefly exchanged words while other players looked on in confusion. Eventually, they went their separate ways and some of Fagan's Tigers teammates grabbed her to make sure things didn't escalate from there.

There's some backstory here that could help explain the root of the altercation. Two of Fagan's older sisters played for Walton at Florida before being dismissed (along with one other player) by the coach in 2012 following an "altercation on the team."

That incident seemingly left a bad taste in the mouth of the Fagan family, one that Haley needed to address on Monday.
