Clemson: Enters game on 16-game winning streak, best in the country (Alabama is No. 2 at 10 straight). ... The Tigers are 45-7 since losing the Orange Bowl at the end of the 2011 season. ... Clemson already has a win at Sun Life Stadium this season, topping Miami there 58-0.

Houston (12-1, No. 18 CFP) claimed a spot in a major bowl as the top-ranked team from the Group of Five conferences. The Cougars won the American Athletic Conference.

Penn State (7-5, Big Ten) vs Georgia (9-3, SEC), Jan. 2, Noon.

Penn State: QB Christian Hackenberg, who owns school records for passing yards, completions, attempts, touchdown passes and total offense.

Georgia: LB Leonard Floyd, a Butkus Award finalist who leads the team in sacks and ranks second in tackles.

NOTABLE

Penn State: Lost three in a row. ... Winless in five games against ranked teams this season.

Georgia: Won four straight. ... Fired coach Mark Richt and backup QB Faton Bauta won't be around for the game. Richt accepted the Miami job. Bauta, who started the team's last game in Jacksonville, is transferring.

OUTBACK BOWL

Two teams riding five-game winning streaks will meet in the Outback Bowl.

No. 12 Northwestern (10-2, No. 13 CFP) and Tennessee (8-4, No. 23 CFP) will play for the second time on New Year's Day. The Volunteers won the previous meeting in 1997.

Four of the Wildcats' five straight wins have been decided by seven points of less.

Tennessee's four losses have come by a combined 17 points to teams with a combined record of 39-8, including two of the four College Football Playoff teams (Alabama, Oklahoma).

Northwestern is making its 12th bowl appearance and second straight in Florida. Northwestern's last trip to the Sunshine State came in the 2013 TaxSlayer Bowl and resulted in the program's first postseason victory since 1949.

RUSSELL ATHLETIC BOWL

Baylor (9-3, Big 12, No. 17 CFP) vs. North Carolina (11-2, ACC, No. 10 CFP), Dec. 29, 5:30 p.m. EST

Baylor: WR Corey Coleman, 74 catches for 1,363 yards and 20 touchdowns.

North Carolina: RB Elijah Hood, 1,345 yards rushing and 17 touchdowns.

NOTABLE

Baylor: Started the season 8-0 but then lost three of its last four games after struggling with injuries at quarterback. The Bears have used four different quarterbacks this season.

North Carolina: Marquise Williams broke his own single-season program record for yards rushing by a quarterback in the team's loss to Clemson on Saturday. He has 867 yards through 13 games. He's just the fifth player in ACC history to have 10,000 career yards gained.

Marshall: Herd feature remarkable balance, with 455 rushing plays and 435 passing plays this season. ... TE Ryan Yurachek has been highly dependable, with eight TD grabs.

Connecticut: Huskies in a bowl despite being outscored 237-213 this season. ... Connecticut is 11-26 in its last 37 games, but is 3-1 in its last four contests.

SUN BOWL

Miami and Washington State are headed to the Southwest for the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas, on Dec. 26.

The Hurricanes closed out a tumultuous season with an 8-4 record after firing coach Al Golden after a 58-0 loss to Clemson, and recently hiring former Georgia coach Mark Richt as their new coach.

The Cougars are a surprising 8-4 and are in their second bowl in the last three seasons under coach Mike Leach.

Washington State is led by sophomore quarterback Luke Falk, who averages 387.8 yards passing per game -- tops in the country. Falk missed the Cougars' final game of the regular season with a concussion.

BOCA RATON BOWL

Temple and Toledo will meet in the Boca Raton Bowl on Dec. 22, on the campus of Florida Atlantic University.

And don't expect a whole lot of points in this one.

Temple (10-3) led the American Athletic Conference, allowing only 19.2 points per game. Toledo (9-2) led the Mid-American Conference and was nearly just as stingy, giving up 21.1 points per contest.

Toledo is looking for its first 10-win season since 2001. Temple is in a bowl game for only the fifth time, joining trips after the 1934, 1979, 2009 and 2011 seasons.

Marshall beat Northern Illinois in last year's inaugural edition of the game.

MIAMI BEACH BOWL

Western Kentucky (11-2, Conference USA) vs. South Florida (8-4, American Athletic Conference), Dec. 21, 2:30 p.m.

Marlon Mack and Brandon Doughty.

LOCATION: Miami

TOP PLAYERS

Western Kentucky: Brandon Doughty, 45 TD passes (leads nation), 94 TD passes last two seasons.

South Florida: Marlon Mack, 1,273 rushing yards, 6.6 yards per carry, 8 TDs.

NOTABLE

Western Kentucky: For as prolific as Doughty is, the Hilltoppers have balance: 508 passes, 431 rushes so far this season. ... WR Taywan Taylor has 17 touchdown catches, second-most in the nation.

South Florida: Bulls have won four straight games, last three of those by a combined 153-53 score. ... QB Quinton Flowers threw for 21 touchdowns and ran for team-best 10 more.

Georgia State (6-6) vs. San Jose State (5-7), Dec. 19, 7 p.m.

LOCATION: Orlando Citrus Bowl, Orlando, Florida.

Georgia State: QB Nick Arbuckle has thrown for 41,60 yards and 26 touchdowns. He averages 346.7 yards passing per game to rank sixth among all Football Bowl Subdivision players.

San Jose State: RB Tyler Ervin has rushed for 1,469 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also has 44 catches for 337 yards and two scores.

NOTABLE

Georgia State: This program is in only its sixth year of existence. Georgia State had posted a combined record of 2-33 from 2012-14 before taking a dramatic step forward this season. The Panthers enter the Cure Bowl on a four-game winning streak.

San Jose State: The Spartans received a bowl invitation despite finishing the regular season with a losing record. San Jose State has dropped three of its last four games, though that stretch includes a 17-16 setback against BYU and a 37-34 overtime defeat at Nevada.
