Welcome back, Frenchy

Wednesday, San Diego's Cameron Maybin drew a 25-game suspension for amphetamines. It was for his ADD, he just switched medications and didn't follow the designated protocols ... You know, whatever. A lot of guys are using amphetamines and it's not like losing Maybin for a few weeks is going to change the Padres' season. What's interesting is the Padres need an outfielder, and so they've turned to ... Jeff Francoeur.

Francoeur isn't a particularly good baseball player, but the major leagues are more interesting when he's around. He's just one of those guys, you know? Who just makes you feel glad to be alive? It was basically either Frenchy or Travis Buck. And you've probably heard what happens if you invite Travis Buck to a party. No? Let's just say you don't want him anywhere near your CD player.

It's just a shame that Francoeur can't still win some games. At this point he's the living definition of a replacement player, which of course is why he didn't get back to the majors until late July. He's no longer much of a hitter at all, and his once-great defense is now limited to a powerful throwing arm.

Still, it'll be good to see him again. Guy just looks like a ballplayer. Has the good head, as they say.
