Weeks a finalist for Roberto Clemente Award

Major League Baseball and Chevrolet announced Tuesday that Rickie Weeks was named the Brewers' 2012 nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award, which honors a players' positive contributions on and off the field, including sportsmanship and community involvement.

Each team is represented by a finalist and a selection panel, including one vote from the winner of a fan poll on MLB.com, will chose the national winner of the Roberto Clemente Award.

Weeks makes annual financial contributions to the Brewers Community Foundation to help programs geared toward youth recreation, scholarships and education throughout Wisconsin.

This year, Weeks hosted the Team Smile dental clinic at Miller Park, providing free dental care for 200 children from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee. Weeks also made monetary contributions to the YMCA swimming program.

Along with the Brewers Community Foundation, Weeks is a sponsor of the 2012-13 “Teach for America, Sponsor-A-Teacher” initiative. He also sponsored the production of the play version of the Jackie Robinson story at the Children's First Stage Theatre Company in Milwaukee.

Weeks has financially supported Rickie's Rookies Ticket Program since 2008, providing hundreds of tickets and t-shirts to youth groups throughout the state of Wisconsin.
