WhatIfSports NFL Simulation Engine

49ers (+8.5) cover against Rams

The largest spread of the week is the eight and a half points given to St. Louis. WhatIfSports .com’s Week 8 NFL predictions agree that the Rams are the rightful favorite, but envision a closer final margin. In 501 simulations, St. Louis won 58.2 percent of the time by an average score of 26-23. The 49ers covered the spread in 71.7 percent of simulations (based on an eight-point spread).

Chargers (+3.5) over Ravens

Baltimore only has one win on the books, a 23-20 overtime defeat of the Steelers in Pittsburgh, on a Thursday night, in the Steelers’ first game without Ben Roethlisberger. San Diego is only slightly better, with wins over Cleveland and Detroit. Oddsmakers like Baltimore by three and a half, but our NFL simulation engine is picking the Chargers. In 501 simulations, San Diego won 52.4 percent of the time by an average score of 28-27. The Chargers covered the spread in 64.7 percent of simulations.

Lions (+5) cover against Chiefs

Kansas City is 1-0 with Jamaal Charles sidelined, thanks to last week’s 23-13 victory over Pittsburgh. The team will look to get a second straight win, and third W of the season, in Week 8 as KC hosts Detroit. The Chiefs are favored by five against the one-win Lions, and we think they’ll garner the win. In 501 simulations, Kansas City won 54.4 percent of the time by an average score of 25-24. However, Detroit covered the spread in 62.1 percent of simulations.
