Wade Davis goes back on DL, Royals recall Matt Strahm
Wade Davis hit another bump in the road in his turbulent 2016 campaign on Sunday, as the All-Star closer was placed on the disabled list for the second time this season.
The Royals announced that they have placed Davis on the 15-day disabled list with a flexor strain. The D.L. stint is retroactive to July 28, making him eligible for reinstatement on August 12. To take Davis' place on the roster, the club has recalled left-handed pitcher Matt Strahm from Double-A Northwest Arkansas. Strahm, who will wear number 64, will be in uniform for today's game against the Texas Rangers.
The 24-year-old Strahm has made 22 appearances and 18 starts for the Naturals this season, posting a 3-8 record with a 3.43 ERA and 107 strikeouts in 102 1/3 innings pitched. He was the Royals' 21st-round draft pick in 2012 and was named a South Atlantic League All-Star (Class A) in 2015.
