Vikings sign former Nebraska QB Armstrong as safety

The Minnesota Vikings signed quarterback Tommy Armstrong on Tuesday, announcing that they intend to use the Nebraska product as a safety.

One of the top passers in Cornhuskers history, Armstrong started 44 games while racking up 10,690 total yards, 8,871 passing yards, 625 completions, 91 total touchdowns and 67 passing touchdowns, all school records.

The Vikings waived receiver Mitch Mathews to make room for Armstrong.
