Vikings cornerback Munnerlyn won't play against Washington

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Minnesota Vikings cornerback Captain Munnerlyn has been downgraded to out for Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins.

The Vikings announced Munnerlyn's change in status Saturday, a day after listing him as questionable with an ankle injury. Munnerlyn practiced on a limited basis Friday in hopes of being able to play.

He was injured last week against the Detroit Lions and had to leave the stadium on crutches.

The loss is big for the Vikings (5-3), who are trying to snap a three-game losing streak. Munnerlyn is key to the team's defense as an aggressive and reliable cover guy in the slot. It likely means that rookie Mackensie Alexander will see more playing time against the Redskins.
