Vijay, Pujara take India to 162-1 at lunch

RAJKOT, India (AP) Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara posted half centuries and shared an unbeaten 94-run second-wicket stand to lift India to 162-1 at lunch on day three of the series-opening test against England, reducing the first-innings deficit to 375 runs.

Pujara was unbeaten on 62 and Vijay was not out 57 at the interval.

India resumed Friday at 63-0 and lost Gautam Gambhir (29) in the second over, trapped lbw by Stuart Broad (1-31).

Chris Woakes tested India's second-wicket pair, twice hitting Pujara on the helmet, but couldn't do enough to snare a wicket.

Vijay brought up his 15th test half-century off 129 deliveries, including five boundaries and two sixes off Zafar Ansari (0-32). Pujara raised his 11th test half-century off 74 deliveries.
